Welcome to The Hummingbird Journal! My little place on the internets that I like to call my own. Not new to the blogging world, I've been writing since 2012 with my first blog "Pretty Little Things" where I focused on style, fashion, food etc. Fast Forward to 2017 and my need for a creative outlet is back and ready to go!
So why the new blog? Why not just start writing for "Pretty Little Things" again?
I guess because I feel like it doesn't "fit" me anymore. Kind of like trying on an old sweater that feels strange, is completely not your style anymore, and when you look in the mirror you hardly recognize your reflection. It's like that. Hence why a fresh start was needed.
So why is the new blog called "The Hummingbird Journal"?
Well, first take the hummingbird. Quoted from Universe of Symbolism:
"Appearing out of nowhere, the hummingbird springs joy in the heart, and there is magic in the air in this moment of fleeting serendipity. Iridescent colors shimmering in the breeze, she pauses mid air to drink in the sweet nectar that the flower so generously provides her. The hummingbird is a symbol of all good things."
"The sweet little bird of joy, ever so dainty and beautiful, the hummingbird symbolizes great courage, determination, flexibility and adaptability. This little beauty is only a few ounces in weight, yet has the courage of a lion. Indeed size is no consequence, the hummingbird is a totem of fearlessness, and represents lightness of being."
I read this excerpt and I said, YES! My soul understands this little hummingbird spirit! My own hummingbird spirit has a bohemian soul that can't be contained, and at times can feel locked in a cage. The beauty of the hummingbird is that it doesn't have to ask permission to flit around from one thing to the next, it just does because that's what it was made to do, and that's what makes it's soul happy. Be playful, create beauty, seek adventure. Hence, where The Hummingbird Journal was born!
And why call it a journal and not a blog? Because I'm in my 30's now guys, and "journal" just sounds so much more refined. Maybe one day a paper issue of The Hummingbird Journal might just end up on your coffee table. And I'll be so happy I called it a Journal and not a blog.
